HIS's History

In December 1980,
HIS was founded in a small office in Shinjuku
with two desks and one phone.

Hideo Sawada the founder of HIS has continued
to take on various challenges based on his wish that
as many people as possible
should travel the world.

In the future, we will continue
to be adventurous challengers

to bring the world closer and provide new value.

Hideo Sawada founded
"International Tours Co., Ltd."

At that time, the number of departures from Japan
was about 4 million per year.

This was only 3% of the Japanese population.

Overseas travel was still a long-held dream.

Our company was the venture in the industry
to sell low-cost airline tickets.

May

Opened Hong Kong branch
as our first overseas office.

We opened our first overseas office in Hong Kong to serve
the role of handling operations to meet the needs of our customers, such as obtaining low-cost airline tickets around the world and applying for visas.
After then, overseas offices was opened one after another.

Obtained General Travel Agency
Registration No.724

We are registered as a Type 1 Travel Agency,
which allows us to provide the following services
for overseas and domestic travel.

  • Tailor Made Tours
  • Arranging Tours

1989

Started selling package tour "Ciao"
a product organized by our company

This is a packaged tour that includes a low-cost air ticket and a hotel, and can be freely combined.
Focusing on sales of low-cost airline tickets,
the company commercialized the product at a time
when it judged that the timing was ripe.

June

"Travel Wonderland Shinjuku Head Office"
was opened as a flagship store
inside the head office.*Currently called "Travel Wonderland Shinjuku."

It was the largest store in Japan with an area of
65m x 22m.
The product lineup became richer,
and the store began
to present itself as
a comprehensive travel agency.

Shares registered with Japan Securities Dealers Association for over-the-counter sales.

Became the first travel
industry venture company
to go public over-the-counter.

Established Skymark Airlines Co., Ltd.* Currently outside our Group

Entered the market as the first new airline
in 35 years due to Japan's airline liberalization policy.
On September 19, 1998, Haneda to Fukuoka scheduled service began.
This stimulated competition and revitalized the market by fluctuating fares in response to demand.

We took over the management of Huis Ten Bosch,
which had been in the red for some time.
The company turned profitable by developing services that can only be experienced here,
such as the world's largest illumination and
events in collaboration with popular animations.

Transportation Holdings Co., Ltd.

Established Laguna Ten Bosch Co., Ltd.

We took over the three businesses of
"Laguna Gamagori",
a marine resort complex
in Aichi Prefecture,
and renamed the facility
"Laguna Ten Bosch".
Utilizing the experience of Huis Ten Bosch,
the quantity and
quality of events are being increased, and measures are
being promoted to increase
repeat visitors.
