Confronting Social Issues Through Travel to Make SDGs Your Own Problem

At the Study Tour Desk, our objective is to increase the number of people who perceive problems around the world as their own problems based on the things that they discover through the encounters and interactions they have while traveling. We also strive to build a network that allows participants to support each other in their actions to resolve these issues after these tours.

Tour Example: 6-Day Interactive Visit to Non-Profit SALASUSU, Cambodian Orphanage, and Angkor Wat

Although Cambodia, which is famous for the world heritage site Angkor Wat, has achieved rapid economic growth since 2000, this development is limited to urban areas, resulting in a growing wealth disparity compared to rural areas. As an example of the use of education to resolve this disparity, this tour involves visits to an orphanage and sites where the non-profit organization SALASUSU conducts activities to help women live independently. During the visit to the orphanage, participants come up with their own program to interact with the children through new experiences, such as fukuwarai and other traditional Japanese games, as well as science experiments including plastic bottle rockets. In addition, an explanatory meeting that is unique to the Study Tour is held beforehand to give participants a deeper understanding of the history and background of Cambodia so that they can make more profound findings and discoveries. During the trip, participants share their feelings with each other by jotting down Travel Notes.
